Project Background
A Korean metal powder manufacturer required a more stable screening process for additive manufacturing powder.
The customer needed to classify metal powder into different particle sizes, including 100 mesh, 200 mesh, and 325 mesh. During production, the existing screening process faced several problems:
- Fine powder below 325 mesh easily caused screen blockage, reducing screening efficiency;
- Particle size distribution was difficult to maintain consistently;
- The equipment could not provide stable processing capacity of 200-500 kg/h;
The production environment required ATEX explosion-proof protection due to the characteristics of metal powder.

After evaluating the material properties and screening requirements, Sanyuantang engineers recommended a customized Metal Powder Screening Solution based on a SYT-1200-1S ultrasonic vibrating screen.
Sanyuantang Solution
For this application, the main challenge was not only achieving the required capacity, but also maintaining stable screening performance when handling fine metal powder.
Based on the powder characteristics and required mesh sizes, Sanyuantang selected a 1.2-meter ultrasonic vibrating screen instead of a conventional screening machine.
The final configuration included:
- SYT-1200-1S ultrasonic vibrating screen;
- 325 mesh stainless steel screen;
- Ultrasonic generator and transducer system;
- SUS316L stainless steel contact parts;
- SUS304 stainless steel support structure;
- ATEX explosion-proof electrical design.
The ultrasonic system applies high-frequency vibration directly to the screen mesh, helping fine metal powder pass through the openings more effectively and reducing blockage during continuous operation.

Why Recommend Ultrasonic Vibrating Screen for Metal Powder?
During fine powder screening, especially for 325 mesh applications, conventional vibrating screens may experience problems such as mesh blockage, powder accumulation, and unstable screening performance.
Based on our experience with fine powder applications, Sanyuantang recommended ultrasonic screening technology for this project for the following reasons.
- Improved Fine Powder Screening Performance
- The ultrasonic system creates high-frequency vibration on the screen surface, helping fine metal powder move through the mesh openings more smoothly. This reduces powder accumulation on the screen surface and improves continuous screening stability.
- Better Particle Size Control
- For metal 3D printing powder, consistent particle size distribution directly affects powder spreading and final product quality. The ultrasonic vibrating screen helps separate different particle sizes more effectively and supports stable 100/200/325 mesh classification.
- Reduced Risk of Powder Contamination
- Since metal powder is a high-value material, preventing contamination is important. The material contact parts of this equipment are manufactured from SUS316L stainless steel to reduce contamination risk during screening.
- Suitable for Safety-Controlled Production
- Metal powders may create combustible dust risks during processing. The ATEX explosion-proof design provides additional protection for the customer’s production environment.
Before and After Comparison
| Item | Before | After Using Sanyuantang Solution |
| Screen Blocking | Fine powder frequently caused mesh blockage | Ultrasonic vibration reduced blockage during operation |
| Screening Stability | Performance decreased during continuous running | More stable long-term screening performance |
| Production Capacity | Difficult to maintain required output | Achieved 200-500 kg/h processing capacity |
| Particle Size Control | Classification consistency was unstable | Improved powder size distribution control |
| Maintenance | Frequent screen cleaning was required | Reduced cleaning frequency and downtime |
| Safety | Standard equipment configuration | ATEX explosion-proof design applied |

Sanyuantang Recommendation for Metal Powder Screening
For metal powder screening applications, equipment selection should be based on:
| Consideration | Recommendation |
| Material Characteristics | Powder particle size, flowability, and static properties |
| Screening Range | Required mesh size and particle distribution |
| Capacity Requirement | Production output and continuous operation needs |
| Material Requirement | SUS316L contact parts for high-purity powder applications |
| Safety Standard | ATEX design for combustible powder environments |
Different metal powders, including stainless steel powder, alloy powder, titanium powder, and other additive manufacturing materials, may require different screening configurations. Sanyuantang provides customized Metal Powder Screening Solutions according to material characteristics, production requirements, and safety standards.

Conclusion
